Physical Characteristics:
Mustard oil cake (Brassica napus), the residue obtained after extraction of mustard oil from mustard oil seeds. Process parameters such as incubation time, biomass concentration, initial moisture content, carbon source concentration and nitrogen source concentration of the medium were optimized. The color varies from brown to dark and the odor is fresh and acceptable.
Production/Availability:
Mustard oil cake is the residue left over from commercial mustard oil or meal production. Mustard oil cake is very rich in protein. It provides many micro nutrients to farm animals. Mustard oil is a cheap source of fat supplement for dairy cows and buffaloes used traditionally in field conditions and have favorable effect on milk composition, because it contains high unsaturated C-18 fatty acids.
